GM Ute Dirks: Introducing OTTER @ Hotel Hermitage

Q1 – Ute, what first caught your attention about the OTTER?

When I first saw the OTTER last year, I immediately thought: our guests need this. It was something completely new. People are naturally curious when they see it and react positively: “Wow, I want to try this!” As a hotel we’re always looking for activities that feel fresh, exciting and premium. The OTTER fits that perfectly.

Q2 – After a full season on the lake, what feedback have you received from guests?

Without exception, it’s been very positive and often surprising. Guests love that it’s faster than they expect, yet so easy to handle. They can ride for hours, go far across the lake and come back comfortably. Some enjoy longer tours, others simply go out for a short trip or a swim. Everyone returns smiling.

Q3 – How easy was it to integrate the OTTER into your operations?

Very easy. We received detailed instruction from the OTTER team and then trained our staff so everyone could confidently hand the bikes out and guide guests. We accompany each guest to the bike, explain how it works and the basics for safe use. After that, it runs smoothly.

Q4 – Who tends to use the OTTER the most?

It appeals to a wide range of guests: couples, friends and families. Each bike carries up to three people. A larger-capacity option could be interesting in the future, but for now it fits most guest groups well.

Q5 – How does the OTTER compare with other water activities at your hotel?

We offer stand-up paddling, a classic pedal boat and an electric boat, but the OTTER stands out as something modern and innovative. Guests haven’t seen anything like it before, and that sets us apart. It’s a premium activity that matches the level of experience we want to provide.

Q6 – Would you recommend the OTTER to other hotel managers?

Absolutely. I fell in love with it when I first tried it. The early small handling issues from the prototype last year were solved quickly, and the product we received is excellent. It’s easy to operate and the collaboration with the OTTER team has been professional and responsive. It’s a product I can confidently recommend.
